Help Getting Baby Off Bottle!?

My son is almost 11 months and I want to start getting him off the bottle. He's used the Gerber starter sippy cup daily (the one with the super soft spout) but now I want to move him up to a more advanced cup, I bought the Playtex stage two which are a bit more firm but not rock hard and he will NOT drink from it! I give it to him and he goes to drink then as soon as he gets his mouth on it he pulls back stares at it for a second then tosses it to the side. How can I get him to drink from his sippy cups?? Moms, how'd you do it with you babies?
